OUR HISTORY & FUTURE

Country Roads Distillery has emerged off the Moss Farms Winery. Located at 100 Harvest Lane, Stone Church Road Wheeling, West Virginia.  Moss Farm Winery, established in 2012, and now Country Roads Distillery is an extension of a family farm that has deep agricultural room in the Ohio River Valley of West Virginia. Hiram Porter Moss bought the Marshall County farm in 1882 when he married Emma Jane Courtright from Dry Ridge. The property passed to his son, H. A. Moss (Harvey Arthur) along with his first wife, Daisy, and his second Wife, Lila Jane. Then the property passed to Harvey and Lila Jane’s children. Byron R. Moss and his wife, Nancy Lee Petzold Moss, bought out his two sisters’ shares in the property. Byron then purchased an adjoining farm in Ohio County in 1955 to create farmland that is spread out over Marshall and Ohio counties.
The main barn was erected by the Amish in the early 1900’s, and a new barn was added in 1985 made from white oak boards harvested from the property. in 1988, Bryon R. Moss retired after twenty-nine years of driving a Marshall County Schools bus route. Nancy, his wife, retired soon after from a twenty-six year teaching career with Marshall County Schools. She taught at Sand Hill Elementary near the farm.
After retirement, they remained in the dairy business until 1996. His daughter Susan has always been interested in 4-H and agricultural hobbies including winemaking. It has been her dream to start a new business on the farm and create a new era of agricultural heritage to pass onto future Moss generations.
Sitting high above Ohio County, the winery & distillery produces a variety of wines and moonshines.
A new building has been unveiled and is open for in-house wine and moonshine tastings.
